Beacon Hill Director Hosts 400 in Wake of Isaias and Covid Pandemic

Amid the Covid pandemic and widespread power outages throughout the tri-state region, the Best Companies Group and Rochester Business Journal came together in a well-attended virtual employer recognition event. Co-hosted by the NY State Society of Human Resource Management (NYS-SHRM) and Beacon Hill Staffing Group Director Lorri Zelman, the 2020 online ceremony was unlike any other in the award’s history. Ms. Zelman represented Beacon Hill Staffing Group’s New York City office, which was named to Best Companies Group’s 13th annual “Best Companies to Work for in New York” list for the third year in a row.

“We are thrilled to be recognized as a top company to work for in NY State,” remarked Lorri Zelman, Division Director of Beacon Hill HR – New York. Through Zelman’s involvement with NYS-SHRM, she was invited to serve as emcee of the event. “This was the first-ever virtual event of its kind with over 400 people dialing in (or Zooming in!) from across the state of New York. It was exciting and terrifying to serve virtually as emcee for the first time, not to mention during a power outage, but it was a fun and lively celebration, which we all needed and a great time was had by all!”

On Wednesday, August 5th, 2020, 75 employers from New York were recognized for their outstanding achievements in employee engagement and the event drew over 400 attendees from across the state of New York. With over 850,000 firms in New York State, Beacon Hill was within the top 1% of companies recognized. Beacon Hill out-ranked 15 other large companies, as one of the top 12 largest employers awarded through the program.

Established in 2007, these celebrated annual awards are part of a distinctive program that evaluates and ranks the best places of employment. This statewide survey and awards program is designed to identify, recognize and honor the best places of employment in New York, whose practices benefit the State's businesses, economy, and workforce. To be considered for participation, organizations had to fulfill specific registration eligibility requirements, and then participate in a two-part survey of employee satisfaction and engagement, as well as workplace practices and policies. Best Companies Group, an independent firm that manages Best Places to Work programs on state, regional and national levels around the world, conducted the survey process, then evaluated the results and determined the best places of employment in the Empire State.

Unlike previous years, the winners were not able to be honored at a public awards dinner. Instead, NYS-SHRM, the Best Companies Group and the Rochester Business Journal/BridgeTower Media were proud to continue the tradition of honoring those companies by creating a virtual awards celebration. The winners received party packages in advance and were able to tune into the awards program virtually. It consisted of a live countdown broken into three categories – Small, Medium and Large.
