Beacon Hill’s Joanna Puglisi Discusses Temp Staffing in Boston Business Journal

June 21st, 2024

Joanna Puglisi, Managing Director of Beacon Hill Financial, recently shared her insights on the temporary staffing industry in an article featured in the Boston Business Journal (BBJ). The piece, titled ”‘An unusual labor market’ makes temp staffing unpredictable,” delves into the complexities of the current labor market and the role of contract work within it.

Joanna explained that contract workers are typically the first to be hired during periods of economic growth and the first to be let go during downturns. With the labor market remaining tight and job openings outnumbering job seekers, employers are increasingly relaxing job requirements and demonstrating greater flexibility in their hiring practices.

She emphasized the importance of creativity and adaptability in recruitment strategies as businesses face a volatile economy, high inflation and other uncertainties. “When there’s a tight labor market, clients have to be a little more flexible in what they’re looking for. If they have five must-haves, they might get three and they’ll have to train them on the other two. There’s no such thing as a perfect candidate, really,” Joanna remarked.

For a more in-depth look at Joanna’s perspectives and the state of the contract staffing industry, you can read the full article on the BBJ website
