“The chatter of a recession or what we're seeing nationwide with these tech-company layoffs — that’s not really indicative of what's happening in the Boston area,” said Rebecca Wright, Senior Regional Vice President with Beacon Hill Staffing Group’s division that places administrative and support professionals.
Kate Harris, a Senior Division Director of Beacon Hill’s HR division, said tech giants’ layoffs were a direct result of their fast growth in recent years. "I feel like they were their own beast when they were growing. They're kind of their own beast now that they're having massive layoffs," said Harris. “We aren't really seeing the impact of that day-to-day at all that you might expect if you're just reading the headlines."
Similarly, layoffs in the drug industry have been tied more closely to regulatory factors than to the economy, said Tim Bolduc, Senior Division Director in Beacon Hill's financial services group.
